Between gun legislation and Steubenville coverage, March came in like a rape-apologist lion and never really got lamb-y. Few bore the brunt of this particular shitstorm like this week’s guest, Zerlina Maxwell, who found herself on the receiving end of a tidal wave of vile and violent threats just for suggesting that rape prevention efforts should focus on men. This week, Zerlina joins Jaclyn to talk about what it’s like privately to be a rape survivor who speaks up about it in public — how do we deal with our own feelings and triggers while doing the hard work of challenging the status quo, and what makes it all worthwhile. Then we answer a doozy of a listener question, from a woman (and survivor) whose friend’s son is a convicted rapist.
