Know Your IX: Fucking While Feminist Episode 39

A decade or two from now, we may look back on this moment as a turning point for efforts to reduce sexual violence on campus. Dana Bolger & Alexandra Brodsky are part of the reason why, and they join Jaclyn this week to talk about why and how students are now organizing across campuses and state lines to change the status quo of rape on campus, and Know Your IX, the legal resource project (just launched last week!) for students who want to press their campus administrations to do a better job preventing and punishing sexual assault.

William Winters: Fucking While Feminist Episode 38

Earlier this summer, Jaclyn had the honor of participating in a panel discussion called Free Your Ass: Defining and Creating a Progressive Sexual Culture, held at the annual Netroots Nation conference. It was such a rich and compelling conversation that, by the end, everyone wished we had much more time for it. So we’re making time here on Fucking While Feminist, by giving each of the panelists a full episode. In the first installation, Jaclyn caught up with William Winters, organizer of the panel, creator of events and experiences for polyamorous communities in the San Francisco Bay Area, and senior campaigner for Change.org, to talk polyamory, the challenges and joys of managing an intentional community organized about sexuality, and why it’s so important to bring sex talk front and center in progressive spaces.

The To Do List: Fucking While Feminist Episode 37

Is The To Do List — the new teen sex comedy starring Parks & Rec’s Aubrey Plaza — the most feminist teen sex comedy Hollywood has ever created? That’s the question Jaclyn put to this week’s guest, filmmaker Michelle Tziakaros. (And then we answered a listener question that both was and wasn’t about getting it up.) Grab a bottle of creme de menthe, your trapper keeper and some lube, and tune in! (MILD spoilers ahead.)

Forward Together: Fucking While Feminist Episode 36

Frustrated with the state of sex ed in the US? So are the folks at Forward Together, who for several years have been working on a youth-led initiative to institute comprehensive sex ed in Oakland public schools. They haven’t given up yet, but now they’re also raising funds for another approach — a series of youth designed and produced sex ed videos that will go where the schools don’t. Jaclyn caught up with Chay Tadeo, Vy Truong and Mai Doan to talk about the project, what they learned about sex growing up, and (as you can see), zebras.

Robin Marty: Fucking While Feminist Epidsode 35

It’s the WHATTHEEVERLOVINGHELL show, part 2! This week, we focus our inchoate rage, panic, fear and anger on the recent (and not-so-recent) avalanche of sneak-attack state-level abortion restrictions in the US. What the hell is going on? Which state is the one with the motorcycles, and which one is banning tampons at the state house? How did we get here, and what does it all mean? Robin Marty, Senior Political Reporter for RH Reality Check and co-author of the crucial new book Crow After Roe: How ‘Separate but Equal’ is the new standard in women’s health and how we change that, is on hand to be ridiculously helpful and informative, and to even give us a ray of hope at the end, as well as some fine advice about defense vs. offense. Then we help out a listener whose ex did a number on his head about masculinity and consent.

Chloe Angyal: Fucking While Feminist Episode 34

Ever compared your love life to a rom com? This is the episode for you. Jaclyn is joined by Feministing editor and feminist rom com scholar (yes, that’s a thing) Chloe Angyal about meeting less-than-cute, the difference between communicating desire and stalking, the difference between No Strings Attached and Friends With Benefits, the key part of romance that rom coms never show, and much, much more.

Kimberly Inez McGuire: Fucking While Feminist Episode 33

It’s time for a WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?!? edition of Fucking While Feminist! Jaclyn processes the extraordinary events of last week with Kimberly Inez McGuire, Associate Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs for the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, connecting the dots and trying to shake out the impact of the Senate’s immigration bill, the Supreme Court’s ruling on DOMA, State Senator Wendy Davis’ dramatic filibuster to save abortion rights in TX, the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, and more. Then, we take a deeeeep breath and give some love, support and advice to a listener whose family is relentlessly disrespecting her girlfriend’s gender identity. Click here to listen!
