50 Shades of Over It: FWF Episode 53

WE’RE BACK. And unless you’ve been living under a log, you know that so is the woman-hating kinkphobic abuse manual called 50 Shades of Grey, which hits theaters on Friday.

Last month, Jaclyn learned all about the horrors 50 Shades via bestselling author Jenny Trout’s world-famous hate-read recaps, and today she’s got Jenny on the line to ask the key questions, including: What does it mean that so many women love a book that hates them so much? If most things are better than 50 Shades, what are the best things that are better than 50 Shades? How did you wind up on the Steve Harvey Show? Do you have Stockholm Syndrome with respect to E.L. James? Then we take on a listener question about coming out as submissive to a new beau.

MARK Leadership Conference – February 28th 2015 at Rutgers University

The purpose of this conference is to inspire action among students and encourage them to think critically about the “mark” they will leave on the world around them. When we use phrases like “the real world” to characterize what students will do after graduation, students often believe that what they do during college is some sort of simulated experience. The leadership office wants to dispel that myth and empower students to think of themselves as agents of change not only on campus but within the community and the world. This conference will showcase speakers that rose to the occasion and made their mark on society in a variety of different ways.

Livingston Student Center,
84 Joyce Kilmer Avenue
Piscataway, NJ, 08854

Partners for Peace

by Ed Kucerak

Free and open to the public. Jaclyn Friedman, Partners for Peace Delegate, in conversation following film

2013 | Documentary | 101 min

Partners for Peace follows a delegation of 13 American and Canadian women traveling to Israel and Palestine under the leadership of Nobel Peace Laureates Jody Williams and Mairead Maguire. Their quest is to learn about the decades-long conflict and to reach out in solidarity to women activists striving amidst the turmoil. Confronted by the complex and brutal depth of the conflict, they are inspired by the commitment and sacrifices of the women they meet, and challenged to ask difficult questions of themselves—and of us all. Narrated by Marisa Tomei

Have you noticed that Cosmopolitan.com seems to have gone feminist lately? Have you wondered WTF was up with that? Jaclyn’s on the case, talking with their senior political writer Jill Filipovic about those controversial candidate endorsements, how anti-rape coverage feels nestled next to terrible sex tips, Playboy’s parallel move and more — including the first ever makeup recommendation to be offered on a FWF episode.
